UAH’s offices are located in the Old Museum Building., which the Belfast Natural History and Philosophical Society erected to house its collections. The architect was the Irishman Thomas Jackson and its foundation stone was laid by George Chichester, 3rd Marquess of Donegall in 1830. The building was formally opended in 1831.

The Old Museum Building is one of Belfast’s finest neo-classical buildings. Basalt pillars from the Giant’s Causeway are embedded on each side of the entrance and the portico is an exact copy of the octagon tower of Andronicus in Athens.
