The Minister for the Environment has offered a lifeline to our vulnerable traditional buildings by adopting the draft Planning Policy Statement 14: Sustainable Development in the Countryside. The Society has consistently argued that the re–use of traditonal buildings constitutes inherently sustainable development because of the embodied energy wrapped up in their construction, the character they give to the countryside and the draw they provide for tourists.
