11th-14th May 2026 – Visit to Oxford

The Society is organising a three day visit to Oxford in the Spring. We will be based in the four star Mercure hotel Eastgate which is well located to enjoy walking around this beautiful city.
On the first evening we will be given an introductory lecture by Professor Cannon William Whyte (https://www.history.ox.ac.uk/people/professor-william-whyte) to give us a flavour of Oxford. The following morning we will enjoy a guided tour on foot by local historian, Liz Woolley (http://lizwoolley.co.uk), who lectures on Oxford and Oxfordshire. The afternoon will be free for visiting local landmarks and nearby museums such as the Ashmolean.
The following morning we depart by coach to visit historic properties in Oxfordshire. The visit will include Rousham House and gardens, Chastleton House and Ditchley Park – all places of interest which give a wider perspective on the county.
We conclude the day with dinner in our hotel.
14 May – event ends after breakfast
The tour is being arranged by Lydia & Primrose Wilson and promises to be interesting, informative and fun. The cost for 3 days bed and breakfast and one dinner, plus lecture, guided tour, bus and property visits is £475 per person for twin/double sharing or £735 for singles. This includes 3 nights bed and breakfast in the Mercure hotel, dinner on the final evening, bus for visits out of Oxford and entry to properties and guides. The tour is for members only and is limited to a total of 20 members.
Cost of travel to and from Oxford is not included. It is suggested that members might fly to Southampton. There are good train connections from Southampton airport to Oxford.
As the Society has to make some payments in order to secure bookings members are requested to pay a non-refundable deposit of £40.00 per person on or before Monday 15 December with the balance to be paid by Friday 27 February. To pay deposit please complete this form.
